A Pattern to Print

Shape and Patterns have always made anything and everything look amazing also the Great inspiration of Nature! I love everything about it I love how you can always change or repeat a pattern or a shape into something different. These are a few of some of my favorite artist that have inspired me to do what I have done this semester!

Florence Broadhurst, Egrets, 1950s

This piece of Florence Broadhurst work made me love textile so much more because her work is amazingly awesome! The subject matter that she works with is nature and the form of it is designed as a repeated image on wallpaper which is very much in context because these prints are designed for wall art.

Florence Broadhurst Tropical Flower 1950s

This image shows a wallpaper texture that was designed by Florence Broadhurst that I found on a website. The reason why I like this image so much is because the form and the colour of the composition works very well together. The pattern of the image is eye catching and in comparison to Tord Boontjes Art work they both work along similar ideas and visual outcomes.

Koloman Moser, Poppies, 1900

I Found Koloman Mosers work of textile pattern very interesting because of the detailed style he has and the time it was produce. The colours of gold and orange give this compostion a warm feel and is aesthetically pleasing. The repetition of the pattern allows the eye to wonder around instead of focusing on one area more than another.

Textile Design by Harry Napper, 1899

The Form of Harry Napper work is very symmetrical, he use very bold colours which makes the flower and the leaves look big and extravagant which leads into his subject matter which is nature and what he portrays of it which is the big, bold and the beautiful you capture. His work is very much similar to William Morris because of the symmetrical affect they both have in there work.

William Morris, Victorian Pattern, 1876

This perfect Victorian pattern was created in 1876 by William Morris for home furnishing. This print was manufactured by Thomas Wardle, Leek, in block-printed cotton. The content of this piece is flowers and leaves, this is a very symmetrical piece that also uses alot of bold colours. I really like morris work because like this piece they are very detail and he always composes patterns that are amazing.

Merimekko Fabric: Maija Isola & Dombra Spring, Dombra Spring: Yellow, 1960

Yellow is always a nice background colour. The reason being because it gives you a feeling of summer and makes you think of summer moods and environments which in most cases refer to warm colours and floral patters whether it may be a cultural or a seasonal trend. This beautiful indian pattern shown above was a designed fabric done by Isola and Spring. The Method of this piece was produced the old fashion way, it was run through a screen print thus transferring the design onto the chosen fabric. The print is very much in context as the use of colours refer back to indian patterns and culture which are bright and bold looking colours. These colours are very much present in the indian culture back then and even to this day are still used majority of the time.

An Intro to be Shared

Based in London, Boontje combines design and craft to create exquisite glassware, lighting and furniture. He gains inspiration from the existence of nature and explores the romance and emotion, which he then collaborates them to create a detailed object or product. He is the creature of Studio Tord Boontje where he displays his amazing ability of creativity in his work.

Three of his pieces I will be discussing are going to cover the subject matter, form, context and method of his work and the thought and also the opinions I have towards them and ideas he expresses while creating something so detailed. He is fascinated by the fact that this exact detailed work that he has accomplished can be transferred into multiple products[1]. Boontje concepts and the potential of his work have been part of the fashion world because of his approach to interior design and the decorative aspect of his work.

For my Blog assignment Ive being working on a Poem that Has been very Popular to a lot of woman around the world, this poem is call “phenomenal Woman” written by Maya Angelou this poem had caught my attention in the 1993 movie “Poetic Justice” I have been working with to movie and poem in relation to my theme, the reason why i choose this poem is because it speaks the truth and it has inspired alot of woman around the world. I so amazed at how one person can reach and inspire woman to apprepicate who and what the are wheather big, small, black or white.

Poetic Justice

John Singleton surprised his fans by making a film that is part love story, part road movie, and part character study of a sensitive poet. Nevertheless, Singleton sees the movie as the second installment in a trilogy about South Central Los Angeles. The heroine, Justice (Janet Jackson), is a young woman in mourning for the boyfriend she lost to gang violence. Her friend Iesha (Regina King) persuades her to go on a trip to Oakland with mailmen Chicago and Lucky. Lucky (Tupac Shakur) and Justice don’t take to each other at first, she doesn’t want to get hurt again and he has his pride but their journey into the world outside the ‘hood proves liberating for both. Singleton lets the serious issues he’d previously dealt with explicitly serve as background this time, which makes them all the more powerful, since for these characters, drugs, teenage pregnancy, and gang violence exist as a daily reality. Janet Jackson’s soulful look convinces us that she has the world on her shoulders; throughout the film she reads her poetry (actually written by Maya Angelou) in voiceover.

My theme is about the 90s so I interviewed my Cousin who grew up in the 90s pretty cool dude!

Describe in 5 words you like about the 90s or reminds you about those times as a teenager growing up?

Rap, 2pac & biggie, Fresh Prince, game boys! PlayStation…chicks? lol

What Music were you into in the 90s?

Mostly Rap, it had a big impact on my life growing up..me and the boys would listen to a lot of Biggie and 2pac

What shows did you enjoy the most?

Fresh Prince! was really big and i love Will Smith that guy made that show and his style was crazy mad!

You remember any big events?

Michael Jackson’s Concert in 96 man that was mean! well i didn’t go but the t.v was all good to watch it on ha ha

Did you wear anything that you would never wear again?

Nah I thought my style was pretty cool, I was into the baggy jeans and colourful shirts..man did we love the bright colours lol but my hairstyle was not the business ha ha

What you love the most about the 90s?

I guess everything I grew up during that time I was a crazy teenager that just wanted to have fun! but I would have to say the music that was brought out during then like Biggie, 2pac, Coolio, TLC, Will Smith, Nas, Jay-Z etc those people and more had a big impact to our up bringing and most of them in there music spoke the truth which i really liked.
